Course instruction will be conducted in the high containment facility at ACDP, Geelong, Victoria, Australia. Participants will receive a 5-day intensive course that includes interactive theoretical and practical experiences. Topics addressed will include introduction to BSL4 suited laboratories, regulatory frameworks, operational oversight, engineering controls and maintenance considerations.

An in-depth theoretical and practical application of biosafety, biocontainment and biosecurity under the Australia/New Zealand standards and Australian regulatory framework for Biosecurity Containment and Physical Containment level 3 and 4 laboratory and animal facilities.

Lyophilized encapsidated RNA (ArRNA) contains a region of the MS2 phage and is used as positive control for extraction and real time RT-PCR. The ArRNA is especially developed to be spiked in nasopharyngeal, salivary, urine and stool samples. Extraction is mandatory before use in real time RT-PCR. During visit of the facility examples for comprehensive detection and measures to control quarantine pathogens (viruses, bacteria, fungi, nematodes) will be presented and the associated quality management will be demonstrated. Furthermore time for mutual scientific exchange and discussions on the control of known and emerging viruses is given. The number of applicants is limited to one to two persons per visiting period.

SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic training, including differential diagnostics of human Coronaviruses and other respiratory pathogens, incl. BSL-2 and BLS-3 conditions.

In this 3-day course the basic principles of the protein microarray will be addressed by a combination of lectures, demonstration and hands-on training. The protein microarray technique can be used for HA antibody profiling for group level assessment of exposures to influenza viruses in small sample volumes from humans and animals (birds, horses, pigs, bats, carnivores a.o.). The training encompasses wet lab training but also the analysis and interpretation of assay results. Special attention will be given to specific issues of Influenza and flavivirus cross reactivity.
