PURPOSE OF THIS COURSE:
The purpose of this course is to enhance transfer of knowledge on biobanking by providing an online and pratical training.
The training will emphasize the terms and conditions to create and coordinate a biobank of pathogen microorganism samples (virus, bacteria, fungi or parasites).
European Virus Archive Global (EVA-Global) consortium, Institut Pasteur, and the Pasteur International Bioresources Network (PIBnet) have a very large, varied and high-quality biobanks. Based on their past and ongoing experiences acquired during disease surveillance as well as throughout outbreaks and disaster situations, they promote global informations on biobanking management, quality, biosafety or biosecurity.
The targets of this training are highly motivated technical staff or students with master level or equivalent professional experience.
OBJECTIVES:
- Select samples of interest for a collection
- Implement and apply standard characterization and storage procedures that meet international quality standards
- Fulfil regulations governing international exchanges
- Develop an international community and network of qualified biobank specialists (teachers or other participants)
Trainees will have access to theoretical and technical modules via dedicated web pages (4 weeks). The course will end with a practical one week session in the partner's laboratory where the final exam will take place. This practical session will give trainees the opportunity to get a more practical overview of the different activities and to discuss specific issues with experts.

- Biosecurity and safety.
- Regulation and ethics
- Practical case studies and technical part
